Boxing Class
We offer a program that meets the needs of the novice but is also designed to handle the requirements of the highly skilled boxer. Boxing classes are designed to teach both traditional boxing as well as boxing for the purpose of MMA. While learning both basic and advanced techniques you will effectively burn fat and tone muscle in every enjoyable and exciting training session. Boxing classes are taught by Canadian Champion Jason Heit. Time is allotted for full contact sparring after class for those wishing to compete or challenge themselves. In the Boxing class participants must wear hand wraps, a mouth piece, a cup, Boxing gloves(14 oz to 16 oz), Head Gear for sparring, and shorts & t-shirt. *At this time, there is no sparring in classes* Fighters Class This class is for competitive boxers or those that want harder sparring. Fighters class is by coaches invite only and you must have the condition to spar multiple consecutive rounds. Kids Class Our kids Boxing Class is for ages 5 to 12 Our goal in designing this program is to give the kids a chance to be introduced to the sport of boxing without pressuring them early into competition. Focus is given on technique, skills and development. We aim to give the kids a chance to unlock and build their athletic abilities on the basis of this highly respected sport. No head contact is allowed in our children’s program until defensive proficiency and control is proven. Parkinson’s Therapy Class A non-contact boxing class for people fighting Parkinson’s disease. Numerous studies show that strenuous, aerobic exercise like boxing can help improve people with Parkinson’s physical performance and activities of daily living. Boxing emphasizes balance, footwork, quick reactions, changes in direction, hand-eye co-ordination and aerobic training. Boxing can help those with Parkinson’s enhance their lives as well as build power, strength, flexibility, and speed that lessens symptoms and leads to a healthier and happier life. Island Boxing provides a safe, yet challenging environment to work on physical fitness, overall coordination and develop the fighter’s “never give up, never give in” mentality. |
rules & regulationsPlease arrive 10-15 mins prior to class to have time to dress, wrap your hands, stretch and warm up. If you find that a class doesn’t fit your schedule for the day you can come for open gym to work out or schedule a private lesson with a trainer at the time you want.
Open gym time is open to anyone with a full gym membership, or you may purchase a day pass. Island Boxing has an ample supply of equipment that is available for the students to use. However it is recommended that you purchase your own equipment that is right for you, for example boxing gloves, head gear, hand wraps, groin protector, mouth piece, etc.). In order to participate you must have a mouthpiece, groin protector, and hand wraps. Equipment is sold on site. Clothing cannot have any metal buckles, zippers or buttons and jewelry is not permitted for everyones safety |
